Cambridge College Summer School enables students to live and study in the world famous university city of Cambridge. Our Cambridge College campus is ideally located to give students access to the city centre and university colleges. The summer programme is designed to give students an idea of what it is like to study at university, meet other students from around the world, and explore the famous city of Cambridge.
Each week, Cambridge College Summer School students will receive 20 hours of tuition in their chosen course. All courses employ a creative and communicative methodology, to enable students to develop their 21st skills. At the end of each week, students collaborate to give small group presentations to demonstrate their learning. All courses feature a micro-internship, through which they will have hands-on experience of working in their chosen subject.
At Cambridge College, our students participate in a micro-internship in their chosen subject. This means they take part in a practical excursion that explores working in their field of study. For example, if you study Medicine you may visit a medical centre to meet its staff and examine its facilities; if you study Business you may visit a prominent Cambridge-based business and discuss with professionals how it operates.
- Get real practical experience in your chosen subject
- Visit real professional locations
- Meet real professionals
- Find out what it’s like to work in your chosen subject
- Build your university application by having real-life practice in your subject
On these micro-internship placements, our students visit real places of work, and meet real professionals. In these visits, students will gain practical experience in working in their chosen subject. The objective of the micro-internship programme is that students not only develop their understanding of their subject, but also gain an insight into what their field of study involves at a professional level.
In building your university application profile, it is important to demonstrate that you have a broad range of interests both inside and outside of school. In particular, it is useful to show that you have taken steps to explore your chosen university subject, and that you have developed an understanding of what that field of study entails in both academic and professional dimensions.
All students will be given access to a cutting-edge online learning platform called ‘The Future Skills Programme’, developed by Eton College. This is a series of short online courses focused on better communication, leadership and university preparation which develop soft skills, practical skills and an entrepreneurial mindset to help students succeed in life. This is called "Eton X Self-Study Module".
The social programme at Cambridge College enables students to explore the city of Cambridge and spend time with their new friends from around the world.
There are pre-arranged activities including sport, museum visits, and punting; as well as opportunities for students to have leisure time in the city centre.
A wide range of evening events is also arranged for the students to maximise their experience. These events include Formal College Dining, theatre trips, and a Formal Graduation at the conclusion of the course.
The excursion programme provides students with a break at the weekend and a chance to explore some of the UK’s top tourist destinations. During a two-week course, students will go on two full day excursions. These offer a mix of cultural and social experiences. Previous destinations have included London, Cambridge and Bath.
All students live in our purpose built student accommodation, a short walk from the centre of Cambridge and our Cambridge College campuses (St. Andrew’s and Sancton Wood) where lessons and meals take place.
The rooms are modern, single, en-suite study rooms. Male and females students are accommodated in separate areas, with shared communal spaces.
All accommodation and facilities are regularly cleaned throughout the stay to ensure the highest standard of hygiene is maintained. A laundry service is available once per week to all students.

Designed for students who wish to improve their English through the study of an academic subject, Engineering focuses on innovation, design and construction. Utilising both science and mathematics, Engineering is the art of applying scientific and mathematical principles to solve real-world problems, such as in the construction of bridges, buildings, electronic circuits and mechanical design. It is also used to address critical issues in today’s global climate such as water and air pollution, and other such areas in the promotion of healthy ecosystems
- Key Skills Developed: Communication Skills, Engineering, Innovation, Design & Teamwork
- EtonX: Exclusive EtonX Future Skills Online Course Included
- Suitable For: Further Study or Career in all Engineering Disciplines
In project lessons, students will look at such engineering challenges as the construction of bridges, towers, buildings, cars and airplanes and how fundamental principles (such as Newtonian and non-Newtonian physics, Lenz’s Law and Bernoulli’s Principle) determine the possibilities of such feats. We will also look at how leading engineers have applied style to functionality, in order to create such design icons as Faraday’s motor and Buckminster Fuller’s geodesic domes.
Building Bridges across Engineering Disciplines.
In our interactive and communicative Engineering course, students study elements of Thermodynamics, Mechanical and Civil Engineering, Fluid Dynamics and Aerodynamics, Electromagnetism and Space Exploration. Students focus on both the scientific and mathematical principles of these disciplines, and learn how these can be applied through our practical project lessons.
It is required at least an intermediate (B1) English level.
Possible dates are: from Sunday 10th July to Saturday 23rd July, or from Sunday 24th July to August 6th
