Earlscliffe Summer School takes place in the coastal town of Folkestone at Earlscliffe. Located a short train journey from London, the College is renowned for its A-Level results and status as a UNESCO School. The recently refurbished campus provides students with excellent accommodation and classroom facilities.
The courses utilise the expertise of the college staff to develop programmes that showcase the strengths of the college. All subject specific courses on offer are also suitable for native speakers. Courses range from The Mini-MBA™, Uni Prep and English & Arts. Each course includes academic programmes, a wide range of social activities and excursions.
Earlscliffe Summer School students enjoy 22 hours of lessons each week in their chosen subject. All programmes are developed by the year-round teaching staff at Earlscliffe and are designed to help students to meet their academic goals.
THE DUKES DIPLOMA
It’s your future, make an impact! This programme has a minimum English level of Upper Intermediate (B2). As part of the Dukes Education family of schools, Earlscliffe is delighted to offer all its summer school students the opportunity to participate in this personal development programme, which runs parallel to any of our other summer courses.
Participants will be guided by our Dukes Diploma co-ordinator on how to mix and match elements from their chosen course with the opportunities offered by our rich and varied cultural activities programme in order to complete the evidence portfolio. Successful Diploma candidates receive the Dukes Diploma certificate, endorsed by the University of Buckingham.
SUMMER SCHOOL SOCIAL PROGRAMME
Students at Earlscliffe Summer School enjoy a balanced programme including sports, arts and crafts, and cultural events. The programme is delivered across the campus and nearby sports centre facilities.
The seaside location of the summer school enables students to take regular daytime and evening trips to the beach, whilst the campuses proximity to Folkestone’s town centre provides the opportunity for students to visit shops and cafes.
Optional Extra Activities:
Alongside the inclusive multi-activity social programme and excursions, students also have the opportunity to join some additional extra activities. Each optional extra can be booked once per stay.

Earlscliffe Summer School students will enjoy full-day trips on Wednesday and Sundays, as well as the opportunity to visit Ashford Designer Outlet or Folkestone on Saturday afternoons.
Every Wednesday students and staff will travel on the high-speed, direct train to London. During the summer we visit some of London’s most famous landmarks and museums, including the London Eye; the Tower of London; the British Museum; the London Dungeons; and the Natural History Museum.
On Sunday’s students will visit nearby cities and attractions including the world-famous cathedral city of Canterbury, Thorpe Park amusement park, and Leeds Castle.
During excursions, students will have some supervised free time in small groups.
Earlscliffe offers students high-quality student residences. Girls and boys live in separate, supervised accommodation. Rooms are mostly twin or triple rooms and all have en-suite WC and shower. The in-town campus means that students can easily walk between classes, meals, accommodation, and activities. Meals are taken in the college dining room and prepared by our own in-house chef. We offer a varied menu with a mixture of British and international cuisine. Every two weeks we offer a formal dinner, giving students the opportunity to dress up and enjoy a three-course meal.
The safety and wellbeing of all students is our number one priority. Students are accommodated on-site in secure and comfortable boarding houses during their stay. The friendly and caring staff team is available 24 hours per day to support students, which includes dedicated and experienced welfare staff, such as House Parents and Welfare Managers. There is a comprehensive Safeguarding and Child Protection Policy and procedures in place to which all employees, volunteers, and contractors are expected to adhere.

University Preparation Course
English Level: Upper Intermediate (B2) or Above
This University Preparation course is designed to support students looking to apply to university in the UK, US, or their home country. The course develops key study skills and assists students in preparing their application to study at the undergraduate level.
The University Preparation course is for those aged 16–17+, who will soon be considering applying to universities either in the UK or their own countries. As a member of the Dukes Education family, we are pleased to offer some course units in conjunction with our specialist partner organisations: Oxbridge Applications, the Medic Portal, The Lawyer Portal.
This higher level, skills-based course is designed to focus on all the independent learning
skills required of an ambitious undergraduate, and indeed to help some of our students seeking entry to the UK’s best universities.
Earlscliffe admissions advisors have many years’ experience in preparing international students for entry into some of the world’s top institutions such as Oxford, Cambridge, Stanford, UCL, LSE, Imperial, Durham and St Andrew’s.

The summer course focuses on the key skills required to succeed as an undergraduate student. Topics include research skills, critical thinking, and note-taking. Students will also explore key aspects of the admissions process such as how to choose the best university for you, writing a personal statement, university interviews, and specific entry procedures for Oxbridge, Medicine, and US university applicants.
Students will develop skills through a series of skills-based workshops, lectures, independent learning, and study tours. During the course, students will construct an academic essay on a topic of the student’s choice to put into practice the skills that they have developed. They will also have the opportunity to write a personal statement and receive feedback from our university admissions experts. One of the highlights of the course is visiting Oxford University and a selected London University.

Tecla Languages is a language agency based in London that since 2009 has been organising English courses in the United Kingdom, Malta, Ireland the United States of America and Canada as well as online courses. From this year they will be extending their offering towards other English-speaking destinations such as Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. They will also expand their offer to Spanish language courses in Spain and Mexico, French courses in France, Italian courses in Italy and German courses in Germany.
Their aim is to help people learn languages in a fun and exciting way, but overall have a memorable holiday experience.
Even though their office is based in London, their English courses are all over the UK in areas such as, the South of England, York, Cheltenham, Exeter, Devon, Liverpool, Manchester, Edinburgh, Glasgow and many more locations.
